Neil Mathis

Neil Mathis was raised in the Bay Area before relocating to Southern California. He received a BA in Political Science in 2008, and an MFA in Sculpture in 2011. Neil practices a variety of art forms, including carpentry, furniture design, illustration, printmaking, and the fermentation of food and drink. He has always needed to create artistic gibberish and fun nonsense to stay sane in this meat grinder world.

Neil Mathis's Thoughtitarium is an eight foot diameter sound-modulating hemisphere fabricated with burlap, plaster, and water. The Thoughtitarium augments the sounds produced by its occupants, providing space for a unique communication experience. This space of communion hearkens aspects of religious architecture and provides an intimate space for personal conversation for two to six people.

Neil Mathis is part of Michael Nannery’s Mind Games – Group Exhibition.
